The gunmen, Omale said, had been waiting for Shima. They shot him through the glass on the passengers side as he got into the vihicle.
The bullet hit him in the right hand, the eyewitness said. The car was reportedly parked near Jackies.
Omale said the lecturer was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Makurdi by policemen who arrived the scene.
Police spokesman, Daniel Ezeala, a Deputy Superintendent of police (DSP), confirmed the incedent. He said there was an attempt to rob the car but it failed. Ezeala said police were on top of the situation.
